    ¡Viva España!

    [Nikon D5300]

Summer trip to Spain in 2023. Barcelona, Girona, Zaragosa, León, Burgos, Gitaria, San Sebastian. Catalonia, Aragon, Navarre, Castile y León, La Rioja, and Basque Country.

When the clergy were supposed to stand but wanted to lean, they could flip up their seats and half-sit in a mostly standing position using this very decorated protrusion.
I never found out what this is. It looks like a little prison, or maybe a dovecote of some kind.
Burgos Cathedral. The bishops were vain creatures, bent upon leaving their mark on the world.
Ridiculous detail. These two had no symbols on the biers below them, contrary to all the other chapels. They wanted it to be even more about them than the others. No distractions, only me.
One of these seats is a secret door to a stair. The wear on the steps gives it away.
The door at the top goes nowhere. But they made a super fancy stair for it.

We went through 16 tunnels on the way to San Sebastian.
Red, white, and blue trucks on the older, parallel highway.
The rose window of León Cathedral.

Finally, the city whose name I bear.

    An early work by Gaudi.
Something between barbed wire and razor wire.
The protective fence around the 'moat'.
The chimneys are stovetop hat-wearing faces.

Most of Gaudi's buildings had a St. George theme, whether with a statue like this or because the tiles on the surfaces and the roof angles were like scales.
Statues of the León royals from the 15th century.
Stonecutters were paid by the block, so each one bears a mark to ensure they were paid for their work.
